Spinal cord stimulation has been used since the 1970s for a variety of conditions including neuropathic pain, failed back surgery, ischaemic leg pain, refractory angina and other conditions. It is used infrequently in New Zealand. Specific guidelines for use are included in the Guidelines section of this site.
