Medications used in pain management with information for patients and caregivers- information from mainly NZ and Australian sites.

The role of medications can be variable and depends on patient, disease and other external factors.  In general we recommend medications to assist with making life more normal again.  Rarely are they the only management strategy, and our goal is to only prescribe medications for a limited time period at the lowest dose possible.  

Yet in many cases they are important. It is essential users understand how medications work, their beneficial effects and their side effects.  We have included the more common medications we use in the pain service.
